2903 Russell Street Berkeley Real Estate
Offered at: $1,195,000 - Sold

In 1924 Sunset Magazine featured an article about Villa Narcissus, a lovely Berkeley home built in 1923 as a residence and music venue for the opera singer, Madame Gabrielle Woodworth. The front room is vast, approximately 40 by 23 feet and has a 17 foot ceiling, acoustically designed to accommodate both vocal and instrumental performances. A balcony with a carved railing overhangs one corner. Two broad steps lead upward into the dining room which in turn opens into a sunny breakfast room.and then out to the garden. It is said that most afternoons tea was served to guests and patrons alike. In the Spring both the front and rear gardens where alive with narcissus and still some of the original interior motifs remain. At one time over the entrance to the balcony the Mohammeden inscription read "If you have but one loaf of bread sell half and buy a Narcissus for the soul".
